There is a craze going on about dog breeding and it makes me sick to the bone. People have a wrong perception that there is a lot of money to be made in dog breeding. As a result they mate anything with a tail. This so wrong as it is very expensive to raise puppies that you will eventually struggle to sell.
Not sure what one can do to ensure that people get to understand this concept. Breed only to improve the breed, invest on a good female and pay a stud fee for a champion dog to breed from. Dont just breed from any dog with a tail.
On the picture I am standing next to Pavarotti a Champion dog that died some few years back and no one has bred anything close to that dog, but there are many dog breeders who breed on daily basis.
Thats my take.

Please Welcome my Dane
Just adopted this greatdane. It was living in bad conditions and I just couldn't say no to it's begging eyes. It reminded me of my first show dog, Spear. I have renamed the dog spear, what a character.

Introducing Volcano

2011, the year that was.
Its a new year and I am looking forward to a beautiful year with new targets to be achieved. Too many things happened in the past year and I just want to forget and look forward to 2012.
Fellow bloggers' I am back doing what I like the most and that is educating people and sharing information on the welfare of our dogs.
I have a new puppy that I am busy training at the moment, her name is Volcano, I have no idea as to why the name but it was given by my son, Lwazi as he is the one who names all my dogs. She is an intelligent puppy full of life and has all the energy and is always willing to learn. She is three months old.
I have started her on the basic training and is mastering fetch than all other commands. But it wont be long before she is up to speed with other basic commands.
I intend enrolling her at the South African Dog Training College as soon as all her innoculations are done. No trial by error here, I want her to be trained where I learned all that I know today as far as Dog training is concerned.
Hope you will enjoy following Volcano's training until she becomes the next Champion

Stop breeding for the sake of breeding
Guys we have a problem of dogs being neglected due to over breeding. Its about time we stop blaming the SPCA for things that are caused by our own doing.
Lets not put profit ahead of the lives of the animals. Breed only if your dog is a Champion and you want to improve the quality of the breed. I am hot, tired of people who breed for the same of breeding and them fail to take care of the poor animal. I am not an animal rights activist, but I feel that we must say it with one voice, "STOP BREEDING"
Not everyone can bring up puppies and its a lot of job bringing up puppies. There is no money as most people seem to believe. It is very expensive to raise puppies. This has to stop, we are the ones who need to take a stance, not the SPCA, they are there to guide us as far as the bylaws are concerned. Some poeple hate them for doing their jobs, they are there because we do not listen and most of the time, reason.
If your dog has never won a race or caught a buck, why breed that dog. What are your intentions, are you breeding to improve the breed or just because its a female dog it has to be bred. We are our own enemies.
Dogs are being neglected when we become sick or retrenched and not able to look after them. We are a bunch of educated individuals, lets help our brothers who are less educated and believe that its a must for every dog to be bred once atleast in its life time. We cant be repeating the same mistakes done in the past, lets do something about it now before its too late.
Lets do it for the animals not personal gain. Away with breeding.
