It is that time of the year once again!!!!!!!!

I would like to take this time to wish all of you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Enjoy with your friends and family and remember to make a positive contribution to those who are less fortunate. There are just too many people out there who are destitute and they need to be helped in one way or another. Lets become a giving nation, all the old clothes that we have lying somewhere in the boxes will make a big difference if we give them to people who are in need.

On an animal note, lets not forget our pets. To them there is no festive season, they love us the same way all the time. Lets not abandon them, if you are going away please ensure that you have arranged with a shelter organisation to look after them or a neighbour or friend that you trust. Looking after animals is a challenge, especially if you are not an animal person as its not about throwing food and changing water, you need to spend time with them. You need to check their health as they can never come up to you and say, 'I have been poisoned or i am not feeling well'. So when you decide on the people who will look after your pets have that in mind.

I am spending the holidays with my dogs as the kids are gone to have fun. I will be running around and walking them every morning and having a great time. I will also be looking after some of my neighbours animals, that is if they decide to involve me.

Make an informed decision before deciding to buy a puppy as a present for your child.

Once again, enjoy the festive season and looking forward to chatting to you in the new year.

Let's All Arrive Alive

  • Take breaks as you go on your long journeys.
  • Don't drink and drive.
  • Safety belts all the time, even those on the back seat.
  • No chatting on the cellphones while you drive.
  • Avoid road rage, drive away as you have nothing to loose.
  • Take precautions before assisting people involved in accidents.
  • No lift to strangers.

DO NOT OVER SPEND, JANUARY AND SCHOOL FEES IS AROUND THE CORNER

These are the additions to my family that I will heat guys next year when the hunting season begins. Check my boys out when they start running and you will be amazed.
I used to run with greyhounds and the guys are beating me everyday with speed hounds and that is why I am now doing this addition to my runners. I want it give a try and see how they run and I believe they have what it takes to show the guys clean heels.
I have to start racing my boys and hope I will not be disappointed.

12 hunters caught with Pistols, machetes, knopkieries and 16 dogs

Next time I will refrain from talking about hunters, police, SPCA and trespassing. In my last blog I was telling you that I was detained with other hunters for trespassing and a week later one of my mailing friends and fellow hunter, sent me an article about guys who were arrested the past week for trespassing and taken to the police station and the dogs............ your gues is as good as mine, to the SPCA. Dogs were said to be being starved and not given enough water. The guys were trespassing and as I post this I have no idea if they were charged or not but I will up date you next time.

The photoes are from the article by Daleen Naude, I hope I am not contravening copy right law by publishing them on my blog. He asked for comments on the issue as the farm owner also feels that he is not safe in his farm due to several issues that we are all aware of, like the murder and stock theft, but I agree with him 100% and this is a serious offence.

This is my comment that I sent to the newspaper or magazine regarding the article;

"to me the dogs look healthy and I do not see the neglect. I feel that these guys are looking after their dogs and there is no question about that. The SPCA is trying to score cheap points claiming that the dogs are abused, these dogs have owners who look after them.

They are fed the night before they go to hunt and by 9H00 in the morning they are back home eating. I do not support the fact that they are starved, in horse racing, are the horses fed before the race? I am not comparing the two but I am clue less as far as that is concerned. As an athlete, there is no way you can run with a full stomach.

On the issue of water, no one can hunt with a bucket of water on his back, but hunters only hunt where there are dams or streams for the dogs to drink. If you check in their bags you will find 2 litre bottles that are used to douse the dogs after a chase. If you give a dog water, it will drink not because it was about to die of thirst, but because it was running and the same applies to food.
I personally think that these guys are guilty of trespassing if they did not get permission to hunt on the farm. That is a very serious offence and as hunters they know its not allowed. But in most cases they ask the farm workers to speak to the farm owners and sometimes the farm workers lie and say they have been given permission and as soon as they see Baas coming with the Police, they change stories. The expriences of farm owners regarding murders in their farms make them call police on sight as soon as they see people on their farms. Anyone can do that, but I feel that dog hunting must be regulated just like trophy hunting (rifle hunting).
The SPCA must also do workshops to educate the hunters as far as the welfare of their dogs is concerned. Its a fact dog hunting is everywhere. As the SPCA helps with vaccinating the dogs against rabies and dipping, they must also educate our people on how to look after their animals. Dog hunting has been there for years and it will not just die like that. More workshops are needed to educate our people. We like the SPCA as they have the animal's welbeing at heart., but I feel that they must be more visible, not appear only when there is dog neglect.
This is my personal opinion and has nothing to do with the case or hunters concerned. Where I used "we", does not imply that I represent a group of hunters. I also hope that my statement will not be taken out of context by the SPCA or any Animal Welfare Organisation, all I am saying is that we know they are there and they are playing a huge role in our society as far as protecting the rights of the defenceless animals. This is not meant to offend anyone.

Hunting expedition

I went hunting over the weekend in Mpumalanga, Middleburg. I had a ball. The guys take the sport very serious and that changes my perception of hunters. I used to think of hostel dwellers when I thought of hunting and dogs. I was with Doctors, Teachers, accountants, police, prison warders, business owners and a whole lot of professional people. The sport is bigger than I thought it was.
The guys are very professional, they do not hunt for meat, but to have a good time at the end of the day.

I saw quality, top of the range. I cant mention how many we killed just in case you forward this to the SPCA. But we had a good time, away from the noisy gossips. There were about 37 guys with more than 75 dogs. Next time, I will take pictures to share with you fellow bloggers.

Some of us were detained for trespassing, this comes with the package of course!

When you look at the quality of the dogs you see that these guys take the sport very serious. This is not to say we do not have guys who hunt for meat purposes, but the ones i was with are professional and well organised. Their dogs are clean and well looked after. Some of them have been imported from as far as Ireland and Australia and they spent a fortune in the process. Buying and importing a dog can be as much as R50 000. So you can imagine what class of people am I talking about. These guys go for the best bloodlines, they don't just go and buy from Baas Jon. They do their research and follow the bloodlines of a dog they intend getting and the money is not an issue.

Soon I will be joining the South African Greyhound Association. We need to take the sport to the next level, you cant beat them if you don't join them and in the process learn as much as possible and then run away and open your own. There are mnyama brothers who are already doing it and we have to join hands and take it to another level.

"Black Empowerment, I Love You". We now have farms where we hunt and have a good time, in the past we used to buy from Baas Jon, but he wouldn't let us hunt in his land. Even though the farms are used for braais and parties, at least they are there and we will one day plant something and keep at least one cow and one goat, for the party of course.

Keep blogging

Grehounds/speedhound or cross hunting dogs

Some call them Greyhounds, speed hounds, hunting dogs and many other names, but they are all the same. The difference is in the bloodline. Some have too much speed, less stamina while the opposite is also possible (more stamina less speed). It all depends on what you breed your dogs to hunt and also the hunting terrain.
We all love them the same, yet there are many unaswered questions about the sport. I will leave that to the expert or animal rights associations before I burn my fingers. These dogs make very good pets. They need a lot of love like any other pet, more training and a lot of running space.
I dont think there is any abuse on the animals when you use them for hunting, but that is my own opinion as these animals are bred or born to hunt. What they hunt is a topic for another day. Hunting is like any other sport, like your polo and horse racing, not sure if the horse is being abused there.
The only worrying factor is how the hunters look or take care of the animals during and after their hunting years. But the few that I have seen, love their animals. I love mine and I always encourage the same amongst the guys who have them. We take them to the vet, feed them quality food and house them in clean warm shelters all the time.
I do not believe in breeding greyhounds as it is very expensive especially when you know what you are doing. I seem to differ with most guys on this one because all of us think our dogs are the best and so we breed from them and the puppies end up in shelters. This is one gospel I wish to spread amongst the guys.
This is an open topic, I'd like to get your input so as to educate our brothers as far as this precious breed is concerned.
I have attached pictures of my two runners, fricky(black) and greyhound(brindle)

If you or a friend needs a puppy let me know

I sell puppies and only registered pups, with full innoculations and I offer after care service. Any breed you may need, I will be able to get for you.

Your reasons for wanting a new puppy

  1. The children want a dog

Once the puppy loses its appeal, as it grows bigger, it is quite possible that it may become a burden and a stressor. All puppies will one day grow to dogs. Contrary to belief, puppies and children do not necessarily combine. The wrong choice of pet could place unnecessary stress on your household and an innocent animal. The poor animal might end up in the shelter (SPCA).

Getting a puppy for security

Dogs or puppies for that matter need to be loved and looked after. You can not expect a dog that is tied on a drum outside or somewhere behind the house to protect you. The more the love you show to the animal the better the chances that it will protect you with its own life should a threat come your way.

A dog needs training, grooming, feeding (good food) not just left overs from the table.
In order for it to be in a position to protect its master. You need to spend quality time with your dog walking it and petting it all the way in your car or at the park. This has nothing to do with certain race groups. We all need to love our animals, thats the bottom line.

If you want a dog for only security reasons, GET AN ALARM AND A GOOD REACTION UNIT. Those do not need any looking after besides remembering to pay your monthly subscriptions.

HAVE A HAPPY DOG WEEKEND AND DONT THROW ME BONES, I ALSO NEED THE MEAT

Send any questions to me regarding your puppies or Dogs and before you purchase any puppy, go through the previous chapters on getting a new puppy and you will not be disappointed.
